Cayman Airways is considering serving Cayman Brac with a popular Brazilian-made aircraft, replacing the previously proposed, but now-unavailable, Swedish-made Saab 2000s, although critics insist the acquisition makes little economic sense.

With at least two years before re-development of Little Cayman’s airport enables access by regional-rated aircraft, analysts say Cayman Airways should continue operating its 737-300 jet service into Cayman Brac.

Acquisition of two Embraer 170 twin-engine, medium-range jets was both redundant and likely to exacerbate financial losses at the national carrier, already plagued by soaring fuel costs.
