Police Search Judge's Home
What a Disgrace to our Judicial System How do we put "Confidence in these types of Judicial Systems The Metropolitan Police investigating team obtained the signature of a Justice of the Peace, who is also a Chief Officer in a government ministry, on the search warrant authorising their 24 September entry into the home of Justice Alexander Henderson.
Asking anonymity, the officer declined to discuss the situation, saying only that he “did not want to publicise this. I fear for my own personal safety,” adding, “This was not the only warrant I signed this week.”
One prominent local attorney said the entry into the home of a Grand Court Justice on a warrant signed by a Justice of the Peace, while legally valid, was unusual.
“Normally they would go to a magistrate, although a Justice of the Peace does have the authority,” he said.
“I suppose they might not have wanted to go to someone that knows [Henderson] and works with him because he might notify the Justice that something was about to happen,” he said, pointing out that that would be obstruction of justice.
“It’s almost out of control at the moment, but the more I think about it, the more bizarre this is. Why could the Governor not have gone to his house or sat down in his chambers and said he understood the concerns. The man is a sitting judge. Why didn’t he just meet with him?” the attorney asked.
Executing the search warrant on Wednesday morning, the six-member Metropolitan Police team seized computers, documents and Mr Henderson’s Canadian passport before confiscating the Justice’s keys and phone and arresting him for “misconduct in public office”.
Held for questioning in the George Town police station, the Judge returned home about 6:00 pm, but on Thursday was questioned again by police, spending a total of almost eight hours under interrogation.
